Tech job market slows in June

The tech job market in the United States slowed in June, with a decline of 171,000 positions and an increase in the unemployment rate for tech professionals to 2.3%, according to analysis by CompTIA.

In the first half of 2023, tech companies in the US added 5,348 jobs for various roles, including software developers, IT project managers, data analysts, IT support specialists, systems analysts, engineers, and data scientists. While IT and custom software services, systems design, PC, semiconductor and components manufacturing, and cloud infrastructure, data processing, and hosting showed positive growth.

Tim Herbert, the Chief Research Officer at CompTIA, highlighted the significance of considering both short-term changes and long-term predictions when evaluating the tech job market. He noted that although the recent numbers may not be as high, the fundamental factors that drive tech employment remain the same.

The Washington, D.C., metro area had the highest number of tech job postings with 16,452, and it also experienced the largest increase from May to June with 1,560 additional job postings. Other cities such as New York City, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Chicago also had significant numbers of tech job postings in June.
