U.S. companies providing critical infrastructures are advised to fortify their defenses against cyberattacks from Russia.
Senior White House cybersecurity official Anne Neuberger claimed the warning is based on “evolving threat intelligence.”
She further stated that the U.S. government has seen “preparatory” Russian hacking activity directed at U.S. organizations. However, the government has “no certainty” such an attack will occur.
Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, the U.S. via various agencies including CISA and the FBI has continued to warn organizations about likely cyberattacks from the Russian government.
The agencies also released a joint advisory on identified flaws, and steps organizations can take to better protect themselves against attacks.
Neuberger explained that the administration provided classified briefings to hundreds of U.S. companies that may be targeted by Russian attackers.
According to President Biden, Russia may attack the U.S. organizations because of the “unprecedented economic costs we’ve imposed on Russia.”
